G.T. news!!!!

Some upcoming dates and events for the G.T. art pool students here at Highland Elementary........

There are several items of interest that concern your student and G.T art.  First, just a reminder that all paperwork should have been sent in to Tina Steen, our gifted coordinator, by now.  The art portfolios are officially due Wed. May 1st. Just to be on the safe side I am requiring that they all be completed by Mon. April 29th.  In order to help our students have their portfolios completed I am going to have several free art workshops on the following Saturdays from 8:30 to 12:00 noon.
Feb. 9th
Feb. 16th
Mar. 9th
Mar. 30th
April 20th
April 27th
Please mark your calendars and have your child participate as often as possible.  These are not mandatory.  I am just offering this as a service to help them out.
Once all the artwork has been collected on May 1st, it will be taken to the Museum of the Barrens and put on display for the judges to critique. At this time they will decide which ones qualify for the actual G.T. art program which will follow them throughout their school career.  The artwork will remain on display for the public to see from May 3rd through April 6th.  This is an exciting time for our budding young artists!
On another note, last year Mrs. Steen arranged for the G.T. art pool students to go to the Ky. Museum at WKU.  This was an all day field trip complete with touring the US Bank’s Local artist display that includes both amateur and professional works of art.  There is even as section devoted to the artwork of area children.  The date is still tentative but we are planning on going on Thursday, March 21st. Pencil that date in and if that day changes for any reason I will let you know asap.  The students will get a chance to draw some of the artwork they will see while they are there as well as eat out at a fast food restaurant.  I will send home more details about that day when they are made available to me.
       Thanks Mr. Woodward
