Aug. 20 - 24th 2012

The main content focus for this week are the elements of line and space. The definition of a line is: a mark or dot that moves through space and can vary in length, width, direction, and color. Our vocabulary for this element includes vertical, horizontal, diagonal, parallel, spiral, wavy, curvy, dotted, and broken.  To further emphasize this element I read them Peter Reynolds book, "The Dot".  It is a wonderful book to read to small children because it encourages the inner artist in everyone.   The definition of a shape is: an enclosed area that is flat or 2-D.  The two dimensions for a shape, are height and width.  There are geometric shapes and organic or natural shapes.  Our lesson next week will take us further into the elements of shape and then on to form. Because we made a collage that process has also been discussed and practiced as the children created their own version of Joan Miro's, "The Garden".
