Talent Pool

As you may have read in my previous post, I will be starting to meet with students who have made the "Talent Pool" for art. My first session with these students will be on Tues. Oct. 11th. Only those students who received a letter, and the rubric they will have to complete by the end of the year, will receive this advanced instruction. I have received all most all of the letters signed by the parents for permission to extend their child's services in this area. There are about 70 students in the talent pool as of now.
During the first session I will try to explain in detail just why they were chosen and what they will be learning. We will set personal goals and begin talking about upcoming projects and how they can manage to get their work accomplished. Our first task is going to be a "judged" pumpkin decorating contest. I thought this would be a great Fall project to help us get our creative juices flowing. In order to give more students a chance at success there will be a number of categories in which to place; scariest, wackiest, silliest, most detailed etc. The children and staff of Highland will vote on these by receiving tickets for each category that they will drop in a can beside each pumpkin of their choice their choice.
After meeting Tues. I will give the students the rest of the week to finish their pumpkin creations. They will need to work on them in class and are allowed to take them home to finish. The work needs to be completed by the student. The pumpkins need to be returned on the following Mon. morning Oct. 17th for the judging to begin.
Let's make our ode the the great pumpkin a grand one!!!
