This week the students will be learning all about the element of color and connect it with the expectations of the core content/ program of studies and program review. They began the lesson with a color experiment. The little ones would squeal with delight as the secondary colors would appear before their eyes like magic!!
After the lesson they should understand tints, shades, analogous, complementary, triad color schemes, color wheel, neutral colors, monochromatic colors, earthtones, value, hue, chroma, intensity and intermediate or tertiary colors. Other vocabulary covered in this lesson will include the following:
Vocabulary: Element of Color, color schemes, color triads, primary colors, secondary colors, intermediate or
tertiary colors, warm colors, and cool colors,
tints, shades, analogous, complementary, triad color schemes, color wheel,
neutral colors, monochromatic colors, earth tones, value, hue, chroma and
intensity. Space , Principle of design
is Contrast, Process is painting, Purpose is to learn, style/ NA, subject
matter/ NA, tool used paint brush, media used acrylic cake paint.
The famous artists we will reference are: Bridgette Riley, Rembrandt, Mary Cassatt, and Remington.
Below are pictures of the students making their color wheels. At the end of the lesson the K-2nd graders learned how to apply their knowledge by learning to paint simple images.
