G.T. ART TRIP to the Kentucky Museum at Western Kentucky University.
This Thurs. March 21st, 18 students from Highland Elementary will join with the gifted and talented students from South Green Elementary to go on a field trip to Western Kentucky University where they will tour and participate in an art workshop at the Ky. Museum.  They will be viewing the artwork of local artists that live within a 65 mile radius from the museum.  The show includes all types of art both 2-d and 3-d. All types of media will be represented as well.  After viewing the show the students will participate in a workshop to hone their skills as well.

This is the entrance to the Kentucky Museum
The first exhibit they saw was a special one where a child with a disability was pared with a professional artist.  They created a piece together and also displayed a work of their own.  This formed a trio of pieces called "Side by Side".
very Van Goghesque

One of the joint "Side by Side creations.

This collage was created by the docent that showed us around the exhibit.

This piece was one of the overall winners.  It is entitled "Paper Dolls".  The images were painted on separate pieces of paper then stapled in place on the larger piece of paper.  It was created by a local Glasgow artist named David Williams.

This was a unique way of creating a modern art piece using recycled pantyhose.

Here Lynn Ferguson explains the whole process of the "Side by Side" exhibit.

Very beautiful and interesting piece that even has small bubbles applied to the canvas to show the bubbles of the wave three dimensionally.

The students got a chance to recreate their favorite piece that they saw in the show.

A fun lunch at the mall after the art show.

Here I am standing beside my  work on display at the museum.  It is entitled "Going Home".

Another piece of mine entitled "Sunflowers".  It was created using an impasto style.  I built the flowers up to a very thick 3-dimensional state by using modeling paste, then painted over that.
