It is the year 1845. We are in Glasgow Scotland. The Robinson Family has decided to immigrate
to America and be
one of the first families to go West into Ky. as
pioneers. Their family includes Ma and
Pa Robinson, their children George, age 12, Lizzie age 8, and their new baby
Meg, age 1. They will take Grandma
Stuart along with them.
1.
Introductory paragraph
It is
late Fall in Glasgow Scotland, and
already the Robinson family is beginning to make preparations to immigrate to America in the
early Spring of 1845. They have steadily
been losing money as weavers of wool since the local factory began mass
producing the same kind of product that they had been spinning for many
generations. Grandma Stuart, Ma
Robinson’s mother, could remember the day when everyone would come to them for
fine wool cloth that she had made by hand.
The Robinson’s had heard that there could be wonderful opportunities to
sell their hand made fabric in America, if they would be willing to sell all
their possessions and leave their home and make the journey to Appalachia where
pioneers would be traveling West into new territory.
